Getting To Know You

The best yet” …… “lots of great quality leads” ……. “great to get to know so many other local businesses” and “when is the next one?”  were just a few of the comments about the event this year.

Held at Fontwell Park Racecourse some 60 businesses came along in torrential rain to display their wares for you all to see.  It's often difficult to judge how successful an event like this is simply because the full effect of exchanging contact details and discussing business with other companies often comes further down the line.  But given the level of noise and the great comments we received we think it must have been good!  If you came along and do have any good stories that you want the rest of the Partnership to know about please contact me – miriam.nicholls@arun.gov.uk. We've put some pictures of the event on the web site – have a look, see what you've missed and promise yourself that you will come along next year!

Annual Business Awards

Yes, it's that time again.  It seems like only five minutes since we launched our 2007 Awards and had piles of nominations all over the office.  We've just managed to clear everything away and now we're ready to start all over again!  At this stage we have all our sponsors in place – thank you sponsors! We have our venue – thank you Butlins Conference Centre. Printing is being done as I write this and shortly you will receive a flier telling you that we are ready to go and that you can get nominating.  You can nominate your company, your suppliers, your customers and even your rivals – go on we dare you!

Just make sure that you nominate someone and whilst you're at it put the date in your diary – Thursday 16th October and make sure you fill in the form to book your free tickets.  If you would like to know what the categories are for this year, or have any questions that you'd like answering, please download the Business Of The Year information pack!

Our Next Meeting

Already people are asking when our next meeting is.  That must be because you enjoyed the last one so much!  We must say a BIG THANK YOU to The White Swan at Arundel for a great evening which was more than ably hosted by my colleague Richard McMann in my absence. Thanks Richard!

Our next meeting is Monday 15th September 5.00 p.m. in Fontwell House at Fontwell Park Racecourse . As with most things we do it's FREE but if you could let us know if you are planning to come along that would be lovely. Just drop me an email – miriam.nicholls@arun.gov.uk .

Where's Miriam?

This month with Getting To Know You and sorting out miles of paperwork for the Awards I've not had a lot of time to get out and about. Also it's been raining very hard... need I say more?!

However, I must use this opportunity to tell you that a fair amount of my time has been spent on the organisation of the upcoming Wheels 2008 which takes place on Littlehampton Seafront on 8th, 9th & 10th August.  This is the second year of Wheels, the aim of which is to get local people to see that there are great things going on and visitors into the area to spend their hard earned cash with our local businesses.  Last year the event attracted around 20,000 visitors and we are hoping for more this year.  So have a look at the web site and make sure you come along.

One of my meetings this month was with Andy Upton and Hazel Hatch at Butlins Conference Centre .  Butlins are hosting our Business Awards this year and are keen to do more work with local businesses.  With that in mind we are working with Andy and Hazel so that local companies can see just how much Butlins has to offer to local businesses – watch this space for more details.

Round ‘Em Up!

Inspire Leisure are organising a Rounders Tournament for local businesses!

Taking place at the Arun Leisure Centre, Felpham on Friday 15th August 2:00pm - 6:30pm.  There are 12 team places available, it would be great if local businesses could join in.

It's aimed at getting your workforce healthy and promoting team work and building team morale.  If you have any questions or to register contact:

Chris's Corner - Your Assistance Please…

I was contacted by PCSO Emma Orpin at Arundel Police Station recently to let me know she's in the process of setting up a Police database of all Arun businesses which have CCTV.  This will help the Police in terms of crime prevention and evidence gathering.  If you have CCTV you are asked if you would kindly fill this form and return it to emma.orpin@sussex.pnn.police.uk

And finally...

It just remains for me to wish you all the best as we go into August.  Whilst it's all doom and gloom and credit crunch don't forget that the aim of your business partnership is to work together to help you to improve your business – probably more important than ever at the moment.
